Want to toss in my ideas for awards.
ReplyDeleteI can ask US SAiling what the absolut max is for depth of awards per class. Can try to go 10 deep. From their budget it seems that IHYC had the awards engraved should we?
Agree that we should have an award for the top female and the sportsmanship award. Should we do these for each fleet or over all.
Are there other ideas for Green Fleet participation awards than Certificates that will still be very inexpensive.
I like the idea of engraving if the location and date are not included. I was jut re-reading the JOManual (http://www.ussailing.org/jomanual/organization/page_06.htm). They have some fun ideas for "additional" categories. Let's try to find out how much the extra awards are and decide whether we go 5 or 10 deep. I would like to have a preliminary budget by November. I will ask Lee how much the extra awards were for 2009 so that we can use that in our budgetary roll-up.
ReplyDeleteHow can we all get a look at the IHYC Budget Chuck referred to? In fact any and all info gleaned from other clubs would be great fodder at this point. Has anyone asked Baltimore County for copies of their planning files? Let's not re-invent, but rather tweak and improve.
ReplyDeleteIHYC allocated $1250 for engraving 120 2" discs. Their budget from last year is posted under "Info from Island Heights YC" note in this blog spot. We've allocated $250 for awards and $30 for certificates. Connie posted the budget on-line so that we all have access, and I just added an entry to the blog that provides the path. US Sailing informed me that they will provide 10 deep of awards and not charge (we need to be sly about sharing this with other groups).
ReplyDeleteHere's a detail spreadsheet for the awards we've discussed so far. It's only a starting point, so please comment.

I am looking into inexpensive participation awards for green fleet and maybe all entrants. Our local Soccer League is going to share their awards info which will help specifically with an alternative to engraving on the medals. I'll bring samples. Hopefully I'll have costs as well.
Does anyone have a vision for the special awards? (Top girl, etc.) Do you envision a plaque, a certificate, a merchandise gift? We have to be careful to balance their value against a gold medal.
I noticed volunteers' gifts under awards in the budget. What do we envision here?
Since I will be (hopefully) be in Europe during the JO's I have enlisted the meticulous skills of Amy Manley to be our on-site awards expert during the event. Although I will do all the pre-planning and legwork, Amy will help with ideas and stay completely informed on all the details to ensure that our awards are in-place, organized, and accessible for the awards ceremonies. Thank you Amy!!
